New armoured vehicles defuse land invasion protest
EThekwini Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer and Metro Police officers
who recently completed a training programme on how to
operate the new armoured vehicles.
THREE recently purchased armoured vehicles have already been put to good use in the Cato Manor area which has been plagued with violent protests and land invasions. Residents were pleased to see the Metro Police presence as they cleared obstructions in no time using the vehicle.

Metro Police Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said: “These vehicles will be used by our Public Order Policing Unit and Multi Operational Response team and will serve to prevent violent protests.” Metro Police Deputy Head Sbonelo Mchunu said the City has been subjected to numerous protests. “These armoured vehicles will also be used to protect Municipal property and will make the work of the Metro Police easier,” he said.

A team of 12 Metro Police officers recently completed a ten-day training programme on how to operate these peace keeping machines. Superintendent Shane Spillsbury, Public Order Policing Commander said the theory and practical lessons were very useful.
