The Municipality would like to remind motorists of the following planned temporary road closures that will occur to accommodate The Top Gear Festival 2013, which will be taking place in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this coming weekend.

Residents and motorists are asked to be patient, cautious, use alternative routes, plan their trips and leave much earlier than normal during this time. During the Festival, the roads around the Moses Mabhida Stadium Precinct will be closed, including portions of Masabalala Yengwa (NMR)Avenue, Ruth First Freeway and Sandile Thusi(Argyle)Road. Most traffic will be diverted to Umgeni Road which will remain open.


Please take note of the following dates and times for the road closures:

On Friday, 14 June from 08h30 – 15h00,

Ruth First Freeway – southbound carriageway will be closed at Blue Lagoon with restricted access to Contractors and selected parking areas. Ruth First Freeway – northbound carriageway will also be closed at Somtseu Rd with restricted access to Durban Central police station. Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Ave – southbound carriageway will be closed at Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Rd with restricted access.

Snell Parade – northbound, traffic will be diverted onto Ruth First Freeway just north of Battery Beach Road

From 15:00 – 19:00, Ruth First Freeway – both carriageways will open to traffic.


Friday, 14 June, Saturday, 15 June and Sunday 16 June

Ruth First Freeway – southbound carriageway will be closed at Blue Lagoon with restricted access to Contractors and selected parking. Sunday 16 June after 22h00, all roads will be reopened.

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused but assures the public that Metro Police will be on site to assist motorists.
