The eThekwini Municipality’s Parks Recreation and Culture Unit cordially invite members of the media to the One City One Book Campaign and the National Development Plan Roundtable Discussions which are social cohesion programmes and are part of Heritage month.

The One City One Book, campaign is aimed at cultivating and promoting a culture of reading among the citizens of eThekwini and, by extension, the citizens of South Africa. It is also intended to inspire the emergence of a cadre of young writers by facilitating active engagement with the chosen book through debates, dialogues and reviews as well as to promote social cohesion. Selected members have been identified to read the book, Long Walk to Freedom, which they will be quizzed on at the launch. This is to encourage the culture of reading and understanding literature. Personalities that will be quizzed include: the Speaker of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Logie Naidoo; Nongcebo McKenzie of Ukhozi FM, Zakes Bantwini and others.

The NDP discussions are part of a series of conversations that the Unit will be facilitating and hosting in future in a bid to cultivate and promote social cohesion and national identity, to scrutinise the NDP, popularise the Constitution and other national blueprints and sensitise the citizens of our City about the values and principles on which our nation is founded. Members of the panel will include:
Mr Joel Netshitendze, the Commissioner of the National Planning Commission, Dr Andrew Layman the CEO of the Durban Chamber of Commerce, Dr Pearl Sithole a Professor from the University of KwaZulu Natal and Mr Irvin Jim the General Secretary of the National Union of Metal Workers
