Metro Police arrested seven suspects for alleged cable theft yesterday, 13 November 2013.
Senior Supt. Eugene Msomi explained, “Two Officers, E. Lushaba and N.M. Dlamini were on patrol in line with our crime prevention visibility plan when they came across a suspicious white light delivery vehicle along the M13. The driver was pulled over after more than one attempt to do so. On further investigation, they found 27 copper cables, each 2 metres long and 6cm thick, one chain block, one steel cutter and one hammer. One can assume that the stolen cables were cut to size for transportation from the site where it was stolen.”

The seven suspects were detained at the Westville SAPS, where further investigation will follow.

This follows an arrest of a drug dealer in Pinetown recently when Metro Police were part of a sting operation involving the SAPS. Fifteen bags of cocaine, seven blocks of rock cocaine, 10 ecstasy tablets and R19 400 -00 in cash were seized during the operation.
Metro Police and SAPS sourced information from the Crime Intelligence and the Organized Crime Units before carrying out the joint operation in Titren Road.
The suspect was detained by the SAPS in Bellair.
