EThekwini Municipality will be beginning the community participation process to determine the needs of the communities who use the beaches on the Bluff. This is in preparation for the upgrade of Ansteys, Brighton, Treasure and the Cuttings Beaches.
Municipal Spokesman, Mr Thabo Mofokeng, said, “The project is currently at inception stage and the Municipality would like to hear what the community needs are for the beaches before drawing up a plan. Members of the community are urged to attend and give their input as the more feedback there is, the richer the project will be.”

“Once a plan has been developed, budgets will be finalised for the implementation of the project. The Municipality would like to hear what the challenges and opportunities are so that it could be taken into consideration when the plan is developed. A presentation of the draft plan will be made to the public once this is complete to get further input before a final plan is drawn up. The Municipality intends to ensure that the community fully participates in this project to inform the upgrade of the beaches as regular beach users.”

Community meetings are planned for 12 November 2013 at Brighton Beach Primary School; 14 November 2013 at Merebank Community Hall, and on 19 November 2013 at Austerville Community Hall and the public are invited to attend and make their input. Meetings will take place at 18h30 to allow people to come from work.
