The eThekwini Municipality’s Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit (DSW) will soon open the new Illovu Landfill site, which is situated at the southern region of the Municipality.

The site was constructed to accommodate the waste generated by both residents and businesses in the southern region. The site has a footprint of some 52 hectares with a buffer of some 190 hectares.
The license for this site will be strictly for the disposal of general waste only. The Public Relations Officer of DSW, Neeri Moodley said domestic residents will be allowed free disposal of waste under 100 kgs, otherwise charges will be levied at the promulgated disposal tariffs.

“No cash will be accepted on site, however provisions have been made for customers to open an account if they do not have a pre-existing one with DSW. The site will open daily from 07:00 to 16:30,” said Moodley.

The public is advised that due to the Illovu landfill opening commercial enterprises will not be allowed to dispose at any of the garden sites. Garden contractors will be allowed disposal only at Seadoone Garden Site at the stipulated tariff.
