The Municipality invites members of the media to attend the Disaster Management Workshop for Councillors and Officials responsible for Disaster Management in the eThekwini Municipality.
 
The main purpose of this workshop is to ensure a uniform approach to the implementation of the legislation and address the various challenges facing the Municipality and disaster management practitioners. It is also to educate Councillors about their roles and responsibilities in cases of disasters. The workshop will cover key challenges for the implementation of the Disaster Management Act (Act No. 57 of 2002) and its National, Provincial and Municipal Policy Frameworks.
 
On Friday, 15/11/13, the Mayor, Cllr James Nxumalo, will award certificates to 155 volunteers who have recently completed training in various aspects of disaster management, which include the provision of short-term relief, aiding of victims and other services.
