In honour of the International Museums Day on Saturday, 18/05/13, the Durban Natural Science Museum (DNSM) in partnership with Kloof Conservancy, accompanied by KZN Bats Interest Group will take the museum to the people.

The museum will be hosting a free educational and fun public celebration which is to be held at the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve on 18/05/2013.

The International Museum Day (IMD) has been celebrated since 1977. This day, around the globe gives all museum professionals the opportunity to engage with the public, as well as inform them of the benefits of utilising the museum, breaking any cultural or social past barriers whilst making the museum more accessible.

This year’s theme is Memory + Creativity = Social Change, which aims to contribute to community development, promoting social cohesion and creating community interest and involvement with our museums and the natural environment.

The celebration will be a fun filled and exciting experience for the whole family. Items to look forward to include educational displays, exhibits of the various museum collection materials and an interesting talk on the fauna of the Greater Kloof area. There will also be a ‘Survivor Eating Challenge’ and an ‘Owl Pellet Search’.
